Fountain Digital Take on First Aid Training!

Our team at Fountain Digital is passionate about designing standout websites, boosting SEO rankings, and helping our client’s digital dreams come true. But last week, we swapped our keyboards for bandages, as we embarked on a First Aid training course with our good friend Michael at Safer.

Now, if you think First Aid training is just about putting plasters on paper cuts and pretending to be a hero, think again. This was serious business. CPR, choking hazards, wound management; by the end of the day, we felt like we could confidently handle anything from a minor scrape to an office-wide fainting epidemic!

Jokes aside, we wanted to do this training for a very real reason. Emergencies can happen anywhere, at home or at work. And while we hope we never have to use these skills, the peace of mind that comes with knowing we could make a difference is invaluable. First Aid training isn’t just about knowing what to do in a crisis; it’s about stepping up, staying calm, and having the confidence to take action when it matters most.

So, what did we learn? Well, apart from discovering that CPR is way more exhausting than it looks in movies, we also learned that every second counts in an emergency. The ability to respond quickly and effectively can mean the difference between a minor scare and a life-threatening situation. And that’s not something to take lightly.

Key Takeaways

  • The Heimlich Maneuver is a must-know. Knowing how to dislodge a choking hazard quickly is crucial and can save a life in seconds.
  • CPR is a life-saving rhythm. It is all about maintaining the right depth, speed, and consistency to keep oxygen flowing to the brain. Done correctly, it can double or even triple someone’s chance of survival in a cardiac emergency.
  • How to handle burns, wounds, and bleeding. We covered everything from minor cuts to deep wounds and how to stop excessive bleeding effectively.
  • The recovery position is vital. If someone is unconscious but breathing, placing them in the correct position can prevent further complications.
  • Defibrillators aren’t as scary as they seem. AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are designed to be used by anyone, even with no prior experience.
  • Timing is everything. In an emergency, acting quickly and confidently can make all the difference.
  • First Aid isn’t just for work. The knowledge we gained applies to everyday life, helping family members, friends, or even strangers in need.

If you’ve ever thought about getting First Aid trained but kept putting it off - consider this your sign to do it. It’s one of those skills you never want to need but will be incredibly grateful for if the moment ever arises.

A huge thank you to Michael at Safer for guiding us through the training (and for not laughing too much when we struggled to bandage each other correctly). We’re now officially a team of digitally savvy, first-aid-ready heroes… well, in our own eyes at least!
